What is the Parivar Mediclaim Plus Policy (NPMPP)?

"Parivar Mediclaim Plus Policy is a floater health insurance, covering the members of a family under a single sum insured. The Policy covers expenses in respect of inpatient treatment (allopathy, ayurveda and homeopathy), domiciliary hospitalisation, reasonably and customarily incurred for treatment of a disease or an injury contracted/sustained during the policy period. The Policy also covers pre hospitalisation and post hospitalisation expenses, 140+ day care procedures/surgeries, organ donor's medical expenses, hospital cash, ambulance charges, air ambulance charges, medical emergency reunion, doctor's home visit and nursing care during post hospitalisation, anti rabies vaccination, maternity expenses, infertility expenses, vaccination for children and medical second opinion. Pre-existing Diabetes and/or Hypertension, Outpatient Treatment and Critical Illness are provided as Optional Covers."

  • Plan A: ₹6L / ₹7L / ₹8L / ₹9L / ₹10L· Room rent 1% of SI/day· Air ambulance NOT included· Health check-up ₹5,000 every 2 claim-free years. Plan C: ₹30L / ₹40L / ₹50L· Same as Plan B· Health check-up ₹10,000 every 2 claim-free years.
  • PED: 36 months. Maternity: 24 months. These are BETTER than NNPMP — NNPMP has 48-month PED and 36-month maternity. NPMPP's 36-month PED and 24-month maternity make it more accessible for families with pre-existing conditions and family planning needs.
  • "In case the entire sum insured gets exhausted due to a road traffic accident claim, the insurance company will reinstate the sum insured amount once in a policy year." Unlike NNPMP (SI exhaustion for any reason), NPMPP's reinstatement is triggered specifically by a road traffic accident claim exhausting the SI.
  • "Discount of 3%, shall be allowed on individual premium, for Insured and his spouse above forty five years of age." Families where insured and spouse are both 45+ receive a 3% discount in lieu of not needing maternity or infertility coverage.

When NPMPP Wins vs NNPMP — and When NNPMP Wins

  • NPMPP wins when:Your family's combined coverage need exceeds ₹10L (NNPMP's maximum). You want air ambulance coverage (Plan B/C). You want medical emergency reunion for family members flying to the patient. You need medical second opinion coverage. You have children and want vaccination charges covered. Your PED wait at NNPMP (48M) is the deciding factor — NPMPP's 36M PED is 12 months faster. You're planning a family within 2 years — NPMPP's 24-month maternity wait vs NNPMP's 36M means coverage arrives faster.
  • NNPMP wins when:You need SI below ₹6L (NPMPP starts at 6L). You want the DM/HTN Day 1 optional add-on — while NPMPP also has it, NNPMP's design around it is more prominently featured. You specifically need 75-day post-hospitalisation (NNPMP's longest window vs NPMPP's 60 days). You want reinstatement for SI exhaustion from any cause — NPMPP only reinstates for road traffic accident. Budget-constrained with a lower overall coverage need.

Health Incentives and Good Health Rewards

💰 No Claim Discount — 5%/Year

"For every claim-free year, a no claim discount of 5% will be provided to the policyholder on the policy premium." Each claim-free year: 5% discount on next year's premium. Cumulative saving for healthy families. Unlike NNPMP's Cumulative Bonus (which adds to SI), NPMPP gives a premium discount.

→ If you need ₹15L+ or travel frequently for work, or want air ambulance: Plan B
→ If you want ₹30L+ total SI for comprehensive family protection: Plan C

NPMPP PED wait: 36 months. NNPMP PED wait: 48 months. The 12-month difference matters significantly for families with pre-existing conditions.

Practical example:
A 38-year-old with Type 2 Diabetes purchases health insurance today.
Under NNPMP: Diabetes-related hospitalisation costs are excluded until age 42 (48 months). Even with the DM/HTN Day 1 add-on, the co-pay persists for 36 months.
Under NPMPP: Diabetes-related hospitalisation costs are excluded until age 41 (36 months). With DM/HTN Day 1 add-on: covered from Day 1 with 10% co-pay, which drops after 36 months — i.e., co-pay drops at the same time the PED wait would have expired under NPMPP anyway.

The combined NPMPP + DM/HTN add-on strategy:
Year 1–3: DM/HTN covered with 10% co-pay under the add-on (DM only: 10%; DM+HTN: 25%)
Year 4+: Co-pay removed from add-on AND PED wait has expired under base NPMPP — full DM/HTN coverage without co-pay

This 36-month alignment means DM/HTN from the add-on transitions seamlessly to full base coverage in year 4 under NPMPP. Under NNPMP, full base coverage doesn't happen until year 5 (48M PED wait).

Call 022 4302 0000 for portability from NNPMP to NPMPP if you want to convert PED credit.
"Medical emergency reunion is covered for Plan B & C with no sub-limits applicable.Medical emergency re-union per limits specified in the policy.".

What it covers:
When an NPMPP insured person is hospitalised in a city OTHER than their home city (e.g., on a business trip, vacation, or working away from home), and a close family member needs to travel to be with them: NPMPP covers the economy-class travel cost for one family member to join the patient at the hospital.

Practical scenarios where this matters:
→ A professional on a Mumbai business trip from Bengaluru has a cardiac event and is hospitalised. Their spouse needs to fly from Bengaluru to Mumbai. NPMPP Plan B/C covers the flight.
→ A family member visiting relatives in a different city is in a road accident and hospitalised. A parent flies from their home city to the hospital. NPMPP Plan B/C covers the travel.
→ A student studying in another city is hospitalised. Their parent travels from home. NPMPP Plan B/C covers the travel cost.

Required documentation:
"Confirmation of the need of family member from attending medical practitioner." Medical certificate from treating doctor confirming the family member's presence was required. Plus: boarding passes, travel tickets for the journey.

Plan A does NOT include this benefit. Plan B and C include it with no sub-limit on travel cost (economy class). Call 022 4302 0000 for exact claim process and whether international trips to India qualify.
"In case the entire sum insured gets exhausted due to a road traffic accident claim, the insurance company will reinstate the sum insured amount once in a policy year.Reinstatement of Sum Insured in case of accidental cases without extra premium."

NPMPP Reinstatement (Road Traffic Accident only):
Trigger: SI is completely exhausted AND the claim that exhausted it was from a road traffic accident.
Example: ₹15L NPMPP Plan B. Father in a road accident: hospitalisation cost ₹16L. ₹15L SI is exhausted. NPMPP reinstates ₹15L for subsequent hospitalisations in the same year.
What's reinstated: Basic SI (not any No Claim Discount or CB equivalent).
Frequency: Once per policy year.

NNPMP Reinstatement (Any SI exhaustion):
Trigger: SI exhausted from ANY cause — not just road traffic accidents.
Example: ₹6L NNPMP. Parent hospitalised for cardiac surgery: ₹7L bill. 6L SI exhausted. NNPMP reinstates for next hospitalisation regardless of whether it was an accident or illness.

Key difference: NPMPP's reinstatement is accident-specific (RTA trigger). NNPMP's reinstatement is broader (any cause). For families where the primary concern is illness-related SI exhaustion (not accident), NNPMP's reinstatement is actually broader in scope. For families where RTA risk is a primary concern (families with young drivers, frequent highway travel), NPMPP's RTA reinstatement directly addresses the highest-risk scenario.

Call 022 4302 0000 for which reinstatement structure is better for your family's risk profile.
This is the most important question for the insurer family floater buyers. Here's the decision matrix:

Choose NPMPP when:
✅ Your family's coverage need exceeds ₹10L (NNPMP's maximum is 10L)
✅ You want air ambulance (Plan B/C only in NPMPP)
✅ You want medical emergency reunion for business travellers in the family
✅ You want medical second opinion coverage (160 conditions)
✅ You want child vaccination covered
✅ You want doctor home visits + nursing care post-discharge
✅ You have pre-existing conditions and value the 36M PED wait (vs NNPMP's 48M)
✅ You're planning a family within 2 years (24M maternity wait vs NNPMP's 36M)
✅ You want a No Claim Discount (5% off premium) rather than a Cumulative Bonus on SI
✅ You can access health check-up every 2 years (vs NNPMP's every 3 years)

Choose NNPMP when:
✅ Your budget requires SI below ₹6L (NPMPP starts at 6L)
✅ You specifically want DM/HTN Day 1 add-on as the primary feature (both have it, but NNPMP is designed around it)
✅ You want 75-day post-hospitalisation (NNPMP's unique longest window — NPMPP has 60 days)
✅ You want reinstatement for any cause of SI exhaustion (not just RTA)
✅ You prefer Cumulative Bonus growing your SI rather than premium discounts

The single clearest signal: if your family's combined health risk requires more than ₹10L coverage — NPMPP is the only the insurer family floater option. Call 022 4302 0000 for a side-by-side premium comparison.
