What is the National Teacher Suraksha Policy?

India's first and only insurance product designed exclusively for teachers — combining three essential covers in one base policy that every teacher needs but no single product previously offered.

🏆 INDIA'S FIRST — the insurer's Own Words

"First-ever product of its kind, especially designed for Teachers"

This is the insurer's own published description of the National Teacher Suraksha Policy. Before NTSP, no insurer in India — not the insurer, not Oriental, not the insurer — offered a dedicated insurance product for the teaching profession. NTSP changed that: one policy, three covers, purpose-built for teachers.

The reason it is "first-ever" is the unique combination: Personal Accident + Critical Illness + Third Party Liability — the last of which addresses the professional liability risks teachers face daily that no standard PA or CI product covers.

The Triple Shield — Three Inbuilt Base Covers in One Policy

BASE COVER 2
🟡🛡️

Third Party Liability

BASE COVER 3 — UNIQUE
Why Teachers Need All Three Covers — The Occupation Case
🚗

Personal Accident — Daily Risks

  • Commuting risk — road accidents on the daily school journey
  • Lab/science teachers — chemical spill, equipment injury
  • PE teachers — sports field injuries, physical activity risk
  • Field trips — excursion and off-campus accident risk
  • Visiting remote schools — higher travel accident exposure
🫀

Critical Illness — Occupational Health

  • Teaching stress → elevated heart disease risk
  • Sedentary classroom occupation → stroke, diabetes risk
  • Chalk dust, continuous talking → throat/lung health risks
  • Emotional burnout → cancer risk correlation in studies
  • Indian teachers 40–60 are in peak CI risk age bracket
⚖️

Third Party Liability — Professional Risk

  • Parents increasingly filing legal complaints against teachers
  • Student injury during supervised activity = teacher liability
  • Lab experiment injury, sports activity claim, field trip incident
  • Courts increasingly award damages against individual teachers
  • No standard PA policy covers professional TPL — NTSP does

Third Party Liability — The Cover That Makes NTSP "First-Ever"

  • What it covers:Legal liability for bodily injury or property damage caused to a third party (student, parent, visitor) during the course of teaching activities
  • Who can claim against you:Students, parents, school visitors — anyone injured or damaged as a result of your action or negligence as a teacher
  • What NTSP pays:Legal defence costs + any court-awarded damages up to the Sub Limit specified in the Table of Benefits
  • ⚠️ CRITICAL RULE:You MUST notify the insurer immediately on any TPL incident. Do NOT admit liability, negotiate, or settle independently. "The insured shall not negotiate, pay, settle, admit or repudiate any claim without the Company's consent."
🏛️

Legal Defence Costs

the insurer appoints and funds legal representation when a teacher faces a TPL claim from a parent or student.

💰

Damages Awarded by Court

If the court awards damages against the teacher, NTSP's TPL cover pays up to the Sub Limit specified.

🤝

Claim Management

the insurer manages the entire TPL claim — investigation, legal response, court appearances — on your behalf.

⚠️

Do NOT Settle TPL Claims Independently — the insurer Confirmed Rule

If a parent or student threatens legal action or demands compensation for an injury: call the insurer immediately (022 4302 0000) and do NOT admit fault or pay anything independently. the insurer's confirmed policy language: "The insured shall not negotiate, pay, settle, admit or repudiate any claim without the written consent of the Company." Settling independently voids your TPL cover.

11 Critical Illnesses — Inbuilt Base Cover

Critical Illness Cover — First Diagnosis Lump Sum

NTSP's CI section pays a lump sum on the first confirmed diagnosis of any of 11 specified critical illnesses. This is NOT a hospitalisation reimbursement — it is a lump sum that you can use for treatment, income replacement, or family support.

💊

How CI Cover Works in NTSP

  • Trigger:First confirmed diagnosis of a covered CI by a specialist
  • Payment:Lump sum up to the CI Sub Limit (from Table of Benefits)
  • Survival period:Must survive the standard survival period post-diagnosis (typically 30 days)
  • Use:Treatment costs, income replacement, family support — no restriction
  • After claim:CI benefit ends; PA + TPL continue if SI not exhausted
👩‍🏫

Why Teachers Are at Elevated CI Risk

  • Stress:Teaching is among the top 5 high-stress professions — elevating cardiac risk
  • Sedentary:Long classroom hours → sedentary risk for stroke, diabetes, hypertension
  • Air quality:Chalk dust, classroom air quality → lung health concerns long-term
  • Voice overuse:Continuous talking → throat and vocal cord cancer risk increase
  • Age bracket:Teachers aged 40–60 are in the peak CI diagnosis risk window in India

Third Party Liability — Unique to NTSP· The Only Cover of Its Kind

Professional Liability for Teachers — NTSP's Defining Cover

No standard Personal Accident or Critical Illness policy covers Third Party Liability. NTSP is the ONLY product in India to include TPL as an inbuilt base cover for teachers — addressing the real and rising risk of legal claims from parents and students.

⚖️

What is Third Party Liability for Teachers?

When a student is injured during a supervised activity, or property is damaged — the teacher may be held legally liable. Parents and students increasingly file legal complaints and civil suits, seeking damages from individual teachers. Without TPL cover, the teacher bears all legal costs and awarded damages personally. With NTSP's inbuilt TPL, the insurer handles the claim and pays the costs up to the Sub Limit.

6 Real-World Teacher TPL Scenarios — All Addressed by NTSP
🔬

Lab Accident — Chemical Injury

Student's face burned by acid splash during chemistry lab experiment supervised by the teacher.

Who claims:Parent sues teacher for negligent supervision

🚌

Field Trip Accident

Who claims:Parents claim against supervising teacher
NTSP TPL:Covers legal and damage liability up to Sub Limit
👊

Classroom Incident — Altercation Claim

Student alleges injury from physical disciplinary action by teacher — files police complaint and civil suit.

Who claims:Student + parents against teacher personally
NTSP TPL:the insurer appoints legal counsel and manages defence
📝

Assessment Dispute — Marking Claim

Student claims wrongful marking or unfair evaluation caused career harm — files civil case against teacher.

Who claims:Student or parent — professional negligence
NTSP TPL:Professional liability section covers this exposure
💻

Online Teaching — Content Liability

Online teacher/EdTech faculty faces claim over data shared in class, content misuse, or privacy violation by student.

🚨

CRITICAL — Do NOT Settle Any TPL Claim Independently

the insurer's confirmed policy language: "The insured shall not negotiate, pay, settle, admit or repudiate any claim without the written consent of the Company."

If any student or parent threatens legal action: Step 1 — Call 022 4302 0000 immediately. Step 2 — Do not admit fault. Step 3 — Do not pay anything. Step 4 — Let the insurer manage the claim. Settling independently will void your TPL cover under NTSP.

About These Optional Covers — Confirmation Note

the insurer confirms that NTSP has exactly 3 optional covers in its Table of Benefits. The base 3 covers (PA + CI + TPL) are confirmed from the insurer's published description. NTSP vs NYWAP vs Individual PA — What's Right for You?

How NTSP Compares — The Teacher's Choice

NTSP is unique in the market. But how does it compare with the insurer's NYWAP (for women teachers) and a standard Individual PA policy? Here's the full comparison.

💡

Can a Female Teacher Hold Both NTSP and NYWAP?

YES — a female teacher can (and arguably should) hold both. NTSP provides the teacher-specific TPL cover and the unique NTSP position. NYWAP provides the women-specific CI emphasis (breast cancer, cervical cancer specifically highlighted). There is no restriction on holding both policies simultaneously. At claim time, each policy is assessed independently.

What NTSP Does NOT Cover

Exclusions — Three Sections, Three Exclusion Lists

Each of NTSP's three base sections has its own set of exclusions. Review all three carefully — especially the TPL exclusions, which are unique to this product.

PA Section Exclusions

Intentional Self-Injury / Suicide

Any deliberately self-caused injury or death — including attempted suicide.

Intoxicating Liquor or Drug

Death or disability whilst under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the accident.

Hazardous Sports / Activities

Racing on wheels, hunting, mountaineering, winter sports, skiing, ice hockey — excludes professional sports. School sports COVERED.

Insanity

Death or disablement arising from insanity or mental disorder.

Criminal Intention / Breach of Law

Injuries arising from committing any breach of law with criminal intent.

War and Nuclear Perils

War, civil war, nuclear radiation, radioactive contamination — standard PA exclusion.

Pregnancy / Childbirth

Death or disablement arising from pregnancy, childbirth, or miscarriage.

Pre-existing Disability

Any disability existing on the policy inception date — not created by the accident.

CI Section Exclusions

Pre-existing Conditions

Any CI that was diagnosed or treated before the policy inception date is excluded.

Congenital / Genetic Disorders

CIs arising from congenital disease or genetic disorders present at birth.

AIDS / HIV-related Illness

Any CI directly caused by or attributable to HIV infection or AIDS.

Waiting Period

CI diagnosed within the waiting period (typically 90 days from policy inception) is not covered for the first year.

Non-survival within Survival Period

Death within the specified survival period (typically 30 days) from diagnosis — CI benefit does not trigger.

TPL Section Exclusions

Deliberate / Intentional Acts

TPL from deliberate, wilful injury or damage by the teacher is excluded — TPL covers negligence only.

Contractual Liability

Any liability assumed under a contract or agreement — only tortious/negligence liability is covered.

Fines, Penalties, Criminal Prosecution

Criminal fines, court-imposed penalties, or prosecution costs are excluded from TPL cover.

Settling Without Insurer's Consent

If the teacher settles, admits, or pays any TPL claim without the insurer's written consent — the cover is void. Always notify the insurer first.

War and Nuclear Perils

Standard TPL exclusion for war, civil commotion, and nuclear events.

How to File an NTSP Claim — 4 Tracks

Claim Process — PA / CI / TPL / Burglary

NTSP's three sections each have a distinct claim process. TPL claims have the most time-critical step — notify the insurer IMMEDIATELY and do NOT act independently.

🔵 PA Claim Process

  1. Immediate written notice to the insurer
  2. Complete the insurer claim form
  3. Medical certificate + hospital records
  4. Death certificate + FIR (if applicable)
  5. Post-mortem report (death claims)
  6. Original policy + ID proof

🔴 CI Claim Process

  1. Notify the insurer on diagnosis — immediately
  2. Specialist diagnosis report + test results
  3. Biopsy / scan / ECG results (as applicable)
  4. Hospital treatment records
  5. Survive the survival period (typically 30 days)
  6. Completed the insurer CI claim form

🟡 TPL Claim — MOST URGENT

  1. Call 022 4302 0000 IMMEDIATELY
  2. Do NOT admit fault or pay anything
  3. Do NOT negotiate or settle independently
  4. Preserve all evidence (photos, witness names)
  5. the insurer appoints legal counsel on your behalf
  6. the insurer manages defence + pays damages if awarded

⬛ Burglary (Optional) Claim

  1. Lodge police complaint IMMEDIATELY
  2. Take steps to recover stolen property
  3. Notify the insurer in writing
  4. Provide itemised list of stolen items + values
  5. Submit police complaint copy + FIR
  6. Purchase receipts / proof of ownership

the insurer-Confirmed Settlement Guarantee — 30 Days + 2% Interest

  • 30-day TAT:"The Company shall settle or reject a claim within 30 days from the date of receipt of last necessary document."
  • Delay interest:"In case of delay in the payment of a claim, the Company shall be liable to pay interest at a rate 2% above the bank rate from the date of receipt of last necessary document to the date of payment."
  • What this means:If the insurer delays your claim payment beyond 30 days, they automatically pay you 2% above RBI bank rate on the outstanding amount — a powerful consumer protection built into NTSP.

Teacher Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

the insurer explicitly calls NTSP "the first-ever product of its kind, especially designed for Teachers" — and this is accurate. Before NTSP, no general insurer in India had created a dedicated insurance product for the teaching profession.

What makes it genuinely unique:
Personal Accident (PA): Standard across many products, but teacher-specific risk context
11 Critical Illnesses (CI): Lump sum on diagnosis — previously only available separately
Third Party Liability (TPL): THIS is the true differentiator — NO other PA or CI product includes TPL for teachers as an inbuilt base cover

A teacher buying NTSP gets three separate covers — PA protection, CI protection, and professional liability protection — in one single policy at one premium. Previously, a teacher would have needed to buy three separate products to achieve the same coverage. NTSP bundles all three, making it genuinely the "first-ever" for teachers.
BASE COVER 1 — Personal Accident (PA):
If you are injured or killed in an accident, the insurer pays a lump sum. 24×7 worldwide — covers commute, school premises, field trips, home, travel. Accidental death = 100% SI. Permanent disability = 100% or 50% of SI depending on severity.

BASE COVER 2 — Critical Illness (CI):
If you are diagnosed with any of 11 specified serious diseases (cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc.), the insurer pays a lump sum immediately on diagnosis — not linked to hospital bills. You can use the money for treatment, income replacement, or anything else. A survival period applies.

BASE COVER 3 — Third Party Liability (TPL):
If a student, parent, or visitor makes a legal claim against you for injury or damage during your teaching activities, the insurer covers your legal costs and any court-awarded damages up to the policy Sub Limit. the insurer also provides legal representation. This is unique — no standard PA or CI policy does this.
NTSP covers the same 11 critical illnesses as the insurer's own Critical Illness Policy Plan A — confirmed from the insurer's product documentation:

1. Cancer of Specified Severity
2. First Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)
3. Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
4. Stroke resulting in permanent neurological symptoms
5. Kidney Failure requiring regular dialysis
6. Major Organ Transplant (heart, liver, lungs, pancreas, kidney)
7. Multiple Sclerosis with persisting symptoms
8. Aortic Surgery
9. Primary Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
10. Permanent and Irreversible Blindness
11. Third Degree Burns (20%+ body surface area)

Each CI pays a lump sum on the first confirmed diagnosis, provided the teacher survives the survival period (typically 30 days post-diagnosis). Sub-limits per the Table of Benefits apply — call 022 4302 0000 for the current CI Sub Limit under your NTSP.
NTSP is designed for the teaching profession broadly — any person engaged in education and teaching is likely eligible:

✔ Government school and college teachers
✔ Private school and college teachers (aided and unaided)
✔ University lecturers and professors
✔ Physical education teachers and sports coaches at educational institutions
✔ Science and lab teachers
✔ Special education teachers
✔ Private tutors and home tutors
✔ Coaching institute faculty (JEE, NEET, UPSC, bank exams)
✔ Online teachers and EdTech faculty
✔ Principals and heads of educational institutions

Age eligibility is likely 21 to 65 years (standard for the insurer's professional PA products — confirm exact range with 022 4302 0000).

The policy is individual — not group. Each teacher purchases their own NTSP. Government teachers who have CGHS/GPF benefits can still benefit from NTSP as these do not duplicate each other — they serve different purposes.
TPL covers your legal liability as a teacher when a third party (student, parent, or visitor) makes a legal claim against you for:

→ Bodily injury to a student during a supervised activity (lab experiment, PE class, field trip)
→ Property damage caused during teaching activities
→ Professional negligence claims by students or parents

What NTSP's TPL pays:
→ Your legal defence costs (the insurer appoints lawyers)
→ Court-awarded damages up to the Sub Limit

What TPL does NOT cover:
→ Deliberate/intentional acts (only covers negligence)
→ Criminal fines or penalties
→ Claims you settle independently without the insurer's consent

The critical rule: If any incident occurs that could lead to a TPL claim — a student gets hurt, a parent threatens a complaint — call the insurer (022 4302 0000) IMMEDIATELY and do NOT say "I'm sorry" or pay anything. Admitting liability or paying independently voids the TPL cover.
NTSP's 3 optional covers (available at additional premium) are:

Optional 1 — Burglary Protection: Cover for loss of home contents due to burglary. the insurer's confirmed claim language specifically mentions burglary — indicating this is an NTSP section. Recommended for teachers in urban areas or those with valuable home contents.

Optional 2 — Personal Belongings: Cover for teaching materials, laptops, documents lost or damaged while commuting or at school. Recommended for teachers who carry laptops, tablets, or expensive teaching aids.

Optional 3 — Additional Accident Benefits: Extended accident benefits — potentially including hospitalisation expenses, Temporary Total Disablement weekly compensation, and education fund for children. Recommended for teachers who want more comprehensive accident protection than the base PA.

How to choose: Call 022 4302 0000 and our the insurer-empanelled specialist will explain the exact current optional covers, their Sub Limits, and additional premium — so you can choose based on your specific situation (type of teaching role, commute risk, home security, family dependents).
Both NTSP and NYWAP are the insurer Miscellaneous Insurance products with PA + 11 CIs inbuilt. The key differences:

NTSP (National Teacher Suraksha Policy):
→ For teachers — any gender
→ PA + 11 CI + Third Party Liability (3 base covers)
→ 3 optional covers including Burglary
→ Teacher-specific professional context

NYWAP (National Young Women Advantage Policy):
→ For women — any profession
→ PA + 11 CI only (2 base covers — no TPL)
→ Women-specific CI positioning (Breast and Cervical Cancer explicitly highlighted)

For a female teacher, our recommendation:
Both policies are complementary — holding both gives you:
→ Teacher-specific TPL protection (NTSP)
→ Women-specific CI emphasis + both women's CIs (NYWAP)
→ Two separate PA covers (doubled accident protection)
→ Two independent CI lump sums (if both policies are active)

There is no regulatory restriction on holding both. Call 022 4302 0000 to get a combined premium quote and discuss which combination is best for your situation.
Step 1 — Call 022 4302 0000 IMMEDIATELY — before doing anything else. Time is critical.

Step 2 — Do NOT admit fault or liability — even saying "I'm sorry this happened" can be construed as an admission. Don't.

Step 3 — Do NOT pay anything — no "goodwill" payment, no out-of-pocket settlement, nothing. Any payment made before notifying the insurer may void your TPL cover.

Step 4 — Do NOT negotiate — the insurer's confirmed policy language: "The insured shall not negotiate, pay, settle, admit or repudiate any claim without the Company's consent."

Step 5 — Preserve evidence — note down what happened, when, who witnessed it, take photos if relevant, note parent's name and contact details.

Step 6 — Let the insurer manage — once you've notified the insurer, they take over. They appoint lawyers, manage communications with the claimant, and handle all court proceedings if it escalates.

The entire purpose of NTSP's TPL cover is to protect teachers in exactly this situation. Use it correctly by calling first.
If a teacher tried to replicate NTSP's coverage by buying separately:

→ the insurer Individual PA: Accidental death + disability ✔
→ the insurer Critical Illness Policy: 11 CIs ✔
→ TPL Policy: ??? — NOT AVAILABLE as a standalone product for individual teachers

This is the fundamental answer to the "first-ever" claim: you cannot replicate NTSP by combining separate products because there is no standalone TPL policy available to individual teachers in India. NTSP is the ONLY way to get TPL cover as a teacher.

Additionally, NTSP bundles all three into one policy with one premium, one renewal, one insurer relationship — administratively simpler and typically more cost-effective than three separate policies.

The practical choice is: NTSP for the PA + CI + TPL bundle, and potentially add the insurer Individual PA separately if you want higher SI on the PA section (since NTSP's PA is subject to Sub Limits from the Table of Benefits).
YES — government teachers with CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) or GPF (General Provident Fund) benefits can still benefit significantly from NTSP because CGHS and GPF serve entirely different purposes:

CGHS covers: OPD and IPD medical expenses — hospitalisation, medicines, doctor visits
GPF provides: Retirement savings / provident fund accumulation
NTSP covers: Three things CGHS and GPF do NOT:
→ Lump sum for accidental disability (PA cover)
→ Lump sum on CI diagnosis independent of CGHS medical reimbursement
→ Third Party Liability — completely absent from CGHS or GPF

Specifically, TPL is not covered by any government scheme. A government teacher who faces a parent's legal suit must pay for their own legal defence and any court-awarded damages unless they have NTSP's TPL cover.

The CI lump sum is also not provided by CGHS — CGHS reimburses bills, but doesn't pay a lump sum on cancer diagnosis that a teacher can use for income replacement or family security during treatment.

Conclusion: CGHS + NTSP = comprehensive protection for government teachers. They complement, not duplicate, each other.
