How Claims Are Calculated
On confirmed death of the insured animal, the insurer pays 100% of the Sum Insured (Vet-certified market value at inception). There is generally no deductible applicable — the full SI is settled subject to policy terms.
For Permanent Total Disability — where a bullock or male animal is rendered permanently unfit for its declared purpose — the claim is settled as per the PTD terms in the policy schedule. This add-on must be opted at inception.
The Sum Insured equals the current market value of the animal certified by a registered Veterinary Surgeon at inception. At renewal, fresh valuation is mandatory. Under-insurance: if SI < market value, condition of average applies.
Where multiple animals are insured under one policy, each animal has its own individual Sum Insured. In a multi-animal death event, each animal's claim is settled separately at 100% of its individual SI, subject to policy terms.
| Parameter | Cow (Crossbred) — Death by Disease | Buffalo (Milch) — Death by Accident | Bullocks — Multiple Animal Claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Animal Type / Breed | Crossbred Cow (HF) | Milch Buffalo (Murrah) | Indigenous Bullock (×3) |
| Sum Insured (Vet-Certified) | ₹ 40,000 | ₹ 60,000 | ₹ 25,000 per bullock |
| Total Sum Insured | ₹ 40,000 | ₹ 60,000 | ₹ 75,000 (3 × ₹25,000) |
| Type of Loss | Death due to Disease | Death due to Accident | 2 of 3 bullocks died |
| Animals / Claim Applicable | 1 cow | 1 buffalo | 2 bullocks |
| Deductible (if any) | Nil | Nil | Nil |
| Claim Payable | ₹ 40,000 | ₹ 60,000 | ₹ 50,000 (2 × ₹25,000) |
* Illustrative only. Actual settlement subject to post-mortem report, insurer assessment, and policy schedule terms. PTD claims settled as per add-on endorsement terms.
Policy Conditions
The following 12 conditions are binding under the Cattle Insurance Policy. Non-compliance — especially ear tag or post-mortem requirements — may result in claim rejection.
All insured animals must be identified with an ear tag (unique ID) at inception — tag number recorded in the policy schedule and a photograph taken with tag visible.
Veterinary health certificate mandatory at inception — certifying type, breed, age, health status, and current market value of each animal.
Full vaccination record required at inception — Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, etc. Must be kept current throughout the policy period.
In case of death, insurer must be notified within 24 hours. The carcass must not be disposed of without prior insurer inspection or written permission.
Post-mortem by a registered Veterinary Surgeon is mandatory for all death claims. Claims may be rejected if post-mortem is not conducted.
Ear tag must be intact on the animal at death. If the ear tag is missing at the time of claim, the claim may not be settled.
Policy is non-transferable — if the animal is sold, the policy cannot be assigned to the new owner. A fresh policy must be taken by the buyer.
Any change in the location or housing of the insured animals must be intimated to the insurer within 14 days of the change.
The insurer or their appointed Vet may inspect the animal at any time during the policy period to verify the declared details and health condition.
Under-insurance: if the animal is insured for less than its actual market value, the condition of average will apply — claim is reduced proportionally.
Subrogation: on settlement of any claim, all rights of recovery against responsible third parties are automatically transferred to the insurer.
Renewal: fresh Veterinary Certificate and valuation are required at each renewal. The Sum Insured is reassessed based on current market value at that time.
How to File a Claim
Follow these four steps for a smooth and timely settlement. Probitas experts assist you at every stage — call 022 4302 0000.
Notify Probitas (022 4302 0000) and the insurer within 24 hours of the animal's death or PTD. Do not dispose of the carcass before insurer inspection under any circumstances.
A registered Veterinary Surgeon conducts a mandatory post-mortem to certify the cause of death. The ear tag must be present on the animal during inspection for the claim to proceed.
Submit: Claim Form, Policy doc, Vet Certificate / post-mortem report, ear tag details and photograph, vaccination records, and bank details for NEFT settlement.
Insurer assesses the post-mortem report and submitted documents, then settles 100% of the Sum Insured for death claims. PTD claims settled as per add-on endorsement terms.
