How Claims Are Calculated

Sum Insured & Claim Calculation

💰 Fire / Accidental Damage Claims

For partial damage: actual repair cost minus applicable depreciation on parts, minus compulsory deductible. For total loss: Sum Insured (IDV) minus deductible. Reinstatement Value basis: no depreciation applied on claims.

🔒 Theft / Burglary Claims

For total loss by theft: Sum Insured (IDV) minus compulsory deductible is settled. Police FIR and a non-traceable certificate from police are mandatory. Partial theft of components: actual replacement cost minus depreciation.

⚙️ Mechanical Breakdown Claims (Add-On)

Settled at actual repair / replacement cost of the failed motor or mechanical component, subject to terms of the add-on endorsement. Wilful neglect, improper use, or lack of maintenance are excluded even under the add-on.

⚖️ Under-Insurance — Average Clause

If the declared SI is less than the actual market / reinstatement value at the time of claim, the condition of average applies — your claim is reduced proportionally. Always insure at 100% of current value.

Policy Conditions

Special Conditions

The following 12 conditions are binding under the Kisan Agricultural Pumpset Insurance Policy. Non-compliance may result in claim rejection or policy voiding.

1

The pumpset must be accurately described in the policy schedule — make, model, type (electric/diesel), motor capacity (HP/KW), serial / motor number, and installation location declared correctly at inception.

2

Sum Insured = agreed value at inception (market value or reinstatement value basis) — cannot be altered during the policy period.

3

Any addition, modification, or replacement of pumpset components must be declared to the insurer — undeclared modifications void coverage for those components.

4

The insured must take all reasonable steps to protect the pumpset — adequate pump house, weatherproofing, and security measures are expected. Failure may void claims.

5

In case of loss or damage, notify insurer and Probitas immediately. Do not authorise repairs without prior insurer survey / approval for claims above the applicable threshold.

6

In case of theft or burglary, a Police FIR must be lodged immediately. FIR copy is mandatory for claim — and a non-traceable certificate for total theft claims.

7

The pumpset must be used only for declared agricultural irrigation purposes. Use for any other purpose without declaration at inception voids the cover.

8

The insurer reserves the right to inspect the pumpset at any time during the policy period to verify declared details and condition.

9

Subrogation: on settlement of any claim, all rights of recovery against third parties (e.g. electricity board for surge damage) are automatically transferred to the insurer.

10

Under-insurance: if the SI is less than the actual market / reinstatement value, the condition of average applies — claim is reduced proportionally.

11

The Mechanical/Electrical Breakdown add-on does NOT cover breakdown resulting from wilful neglect, improper use, overloading, or lack of maintenance.

12

Renewal: SI is reassessed at each renewal — depreciation applied progressively. Fresh photos / inspection may be required for older pumpset units.

Some Myths about Pumpset Insurance

Frequently Asked Questions

Kisan Agricultural Pumpset Insurance is a rural insurance product by the insurer (Probitas Insurance Brokers Ltd.) under the Kisan brand, designed to protect agricultural pumpsets used for irrigation. Any farmer, agricultural cooperative, or IRDP beneficiary who owns an electric, diesel, or submersible pumpset for irrigation should buy this policy — especially in flood-prone, theft-prone, or power fluctuation areas.
All types of agricultural irrigation pumpsets are covered: Electric Motor pumpsets, Diesel Engine pumpsets, Submersible pumps, Centrifugal pumps, and Mono-block pumps. The pumpset's make, model, type, motor capacity (HP/KW), and serial number must be declared accurately at inception.
Yes — theft is covered under Section B (Burglary, Housebreaking & Theft). However, it requires forcible and violent entry (FVE) — simple theft or pilferage without forced entry is not covered. A Police FIR must be lodged immediately, and a non-traceable certificate is required for total theft claims.
Mechanical and electrical breakdown (including burnout, short circuit, power surge damage) is NOT covered under the base policy. It is covered only if the Mechanical/Electrical Breakdown add-on is specifically opted and paid for at inception. This add-on must be declared at inception and is not available mid-policy. Even with the add-on, breakdown from wilful neglect, overloading, or improper use remains excluded.
Market Value (MV) = Replacement cost minus depreciation based on age — lower premium but depreciation applies on claims.
Reinstatement Value (RV) = Cost to replace with a brand-new pumpset of similar type and capacity — no depreciation on claims, but higher premium.
Both options are available — choose at inception. For older pumpsets, MV may be more cost-effective; for newer ones, RV gives better claim protection.
Step 1: Call Probitas on 022 4302 0000 and notify the insurer immediately. Do not attempt repairs before the insurer approves.
Step 2: Insurer appoints a surveyor to inspect the flood-damaged pumpset and assess the loss.
Step 3: Submit Claim Form, Policy doc, surveyor report, repair bills / estimates, photographs, and bank details.
Flood damage is covered under Section A (Fire & Allied Perils) — no FIR required for flood claims.
Yes — wiring and cabling connected to the pumpset, and the pipeline / delivery system directly connected to the pump unit, are covered as part of the insured pumpset unit. They must be declared as part of the pumpset at inception. Components not declared in the policy schedule are not covered.
Yes — IRDP beneficiaries and participants in government-subsidised rural schemes may be eligible for premium subsidies on the Kisan Pumpset Insurance policy. The applicable subsidy varies by state and scheme. Contact Probitas on 022 4302 0000 or fill in the quote form to confirm the subsidy available in your state and scheme.
Yes — second-hand and older pumpsets can be insured on a Market Value basis (with depreciation applied to the SI). For very old units (over 5 years), the IDV is mutually agreed between the insurer and insured. The insurer may require inspection photographs or a fresh assessment for older units at inception or renewal.
