Comprehensive financial protection for your irrigation infrastructure — pump sets, sprinkler networks, drip systems, and control panels — against fire, flood, theft, accidental damage, and mechanical breakdown. A Probitas Insurance Brokers rural product, issued by IRDAI-licensed brokers.
Rural Insurance
Lift Irrigation / Sprinklers Insurance is a rural insurance product offered by Probitas Insurance Brokers Ltd. (the insurer) providing comprehensive protection to farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs against loss of or damage to motor-driven pump sets, sprinkler irrigation networks, drip irrigation systems, pipes, control panels, and associated infrastructure. Given the substantial investment farmers make in irrigation systems — often under the Government of India's PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) — protecting this critical equipment against fire, flood, theft, and breakdown is essential. Probitas Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. (IRDAI Lic. No. 528) is your licensed broker.
Electric, diesel & submersible pump sets lifting water from wells, canals & reservoirs
Lateral pipes, sprinkler heads, risers, filters & pressure regulators for overhead irrigation
Drip laterals, emitters, sub-main pipes, fertigation units for micro-irrigation
Control panels, starters, wiring & electrical components — Motor Breakdown add-on available
If your lift irrigation or sprinkler system was installed under the PMKSY, National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), or any state micro-irrigation subsidy scheme, you should insure the system at its full replacement cost — not the subsidised purchase price you paid. At claim time, the insurer reimburses the cost to replace or repair the system at current market rates, regardless of how much subsidy you originally received. Contact Probitas on 022 4302 0000 to correctly declare the sum insured for your PMKSY system.

Coverage Under Lift Irrigation / Sprinklers Insurance
The policy is structured in four sections. Sections I, II, and III form the core cover. Section IV (Mechanical Breakdown) is an optional add-on requiring at least Section I. Mix and match sections based on your risk exposure and budget.
How Claims Are Calculated
If the sum insured declared is less than the actual full market value of all insured equipment, the Average Clause activates. Every claim is then reduced in the same proportion that the declared sum insured bears to the actual market value. Example: If your system is worth ₹1,00,000 but you insure for ₹60,000 (60%), any claim is paid at only 60% of the assessed loss. Always insure at full current market value to avoid this.
Available for equipment less than 3 years old — declared at inception as Reinstatement Value basis. On a total loss, the insurer pays the full cost to replace with equivalent new equipment of the same make and capacity, without any depreciation deduction. The premium is higher, but you receive full replacement cost. The difference between Market Value and Reinstatement Value is paid only after actual reinstatement is completed and proven to the insurer.
| Parameter | Flood Damage — Pump Set (3 yrs old) | Theft — Sprinkler Pipes & Heads (2 yrs old) | Mechanical Breakdown — Motor Burnout (Sec IV) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replacement Cost (new equivalent) | ₹ 45,000 | ₹ 18,947 (new value) | Rewinding Cost |
| Depreciation Applied | 10% (Year 3) = ₹ 4,500 | 5% (Year 2) = ₹ 947 | 15% on parts = ₹ 1,800 |
| Market Value / Net Cost | ₹ 40,500 | ₹ 18,000 | ₹ 10,200 |
| Actual Repair / Damage Cost | Repair: ₹ 28,000 | Total loss of stolen set | Rewind cost: ₹ 12,000 |
| Net Claim (after depreciation on parts) | ₹ 25,200 | ₹ 18,000 (MV of stolen items) | ₹ 10,200 |
| Compulsory Excess | ₹ 500 | ₹ 500 | ₹ 500 |
| Claim Payable | ₹ 24,700 | ₹ 17,500 | ₹ 9,700 |
* Illustrative only. Actual settlement depends on surveyor assessment, applicable depreciation schedule, and policy schedule terms. Figures shown are for demonstration. All claims subject to surveyor inspection and verification of sum insured adequacy.
Policy Conditions
The following 12 conditions are binding under the the insurer Lift Irrigation / Sprinklers Insurance Policy. Non-compliance may result in claim rejection or policy voiding.
Accurate Description: All insured items (pump make, capacity, HP rating, pipe type, length, sprinkler type and count) must be accurately described in the policy schedule. Under-description may void or reduce claims.
Sum Insured = Full Value: The sum insured must represent the full current market value of the declared system. Under-insuring activates the Average Clause — all claims reduced proportionally.
Maintenance Obligation: The insured must maintain the irrigation system in good working condition. Claims arising from lack of routine maintenance (e.g., worn seals causing pump burnout) may be voided or reduced.
Notification within 48 Hours: Any loss or damage must be notified to Probitas (022 4302 0000) and the insurer within 48 hours of occurrence. Delayed notification may prejudice claim settlement.
Do NOT Repair Without Survey: For OD / accidental damage claims, the insured must NOT authorise repairs before the insurer's surveyor inspects. Emergency temporary repairs to prevent further loss are permitted — photograph before any repair.
Theft — Police FIR Mandatory: For all theft, burglary, or robbery claims, a Police FIR must be lodged immediately. Claims without FIR will not be settled. The insured must prove forcible and violent entry for burglary claims.
Section IV — Mechanical Breakdown: Equipment must be less than 10 years old. Section IV cannot be taken as standalone — requires Section I minimum. Annual inspection by the insurer's engineer may be required.
Government Subsidy Systems (PMKSY): The sum insured should cover the full replacement cost — not the subsidised purchase price. The insured is responsible for the full replacement cost at claim time.
Location Change: If the irrigation system is moved to a different farm / field location during the policy period, the insurer must be notified immediately. Failure voids coverage at the new location.
Subrogation: On settlement of any claim, all rights of recovery against responsible third parties automatically transfer to the insurer.
Reinstatement: After a total loss on Reinstatement Value basis, the difference between Market Value and Reinstatement Value is paid only after actual reinstatement is completed and proven to the insurer.
Policy Period: Standard 12-month policy. At each renewal — system condition, any additions or removals, and current market value must be redeclared. Failure to update sum insured may lead to under-insurance.
How to File a Claim
This is an equipment policy — a licensed surveyor must inspect damage before repairs. Follow these four steps carefully. Probitas assists at every stage — call 022 4302 0000.
For all damage claims (fire, flood, accidental damage), call Probitas on 022 4302 0000 immediately — then do NOT authorise or begin repairs until the insurer's licensed surveyor has inspected the damaged equipment and assessed the loss. Emergency/temporary repairs to prevent further damage are permitted — take detailed photographs of all damage before any repair. Unauthorised repairs before survey may result in claim rejection as the surveyor cannot verify the extent of original damage.
Call Probitas (022 4302 0000) immediately on any loss or damage. For theft / burglary: lodge Police FIR immediately. For fire: obtain Fire Brigade report. Do NOT begin repairs before surveyor inspection.
Insurer appoints a licensed surveyor to inspect the damaged system and assess the loss. For Section IV (Mechanical Breakdown): a technical engineer / specialist may be appointed. Make the site fully accessible for inspection.
Submit: Claim Form, Original Policy, purchase invoices for insured items, surveyor report, Police FIR (theft/burglary), Fire Brigade report (fire), repair estimates / final bills, photographs of damage, bank passbook / cancelled cheque.
OD / Fire / Burglary: repair cost or replacement (market value) minus depreciation minus compulsory excess. Sec IV Breakdown: repair cost minus depreciation minus excess. Reinstatement Value: full replacement cost after reinstatement proven.
