Who Can Apply
All recognised purebred and pedigree dogs are eligible. The dog must be in good health at inception and free of any pre-existing conditions known to the owner.
Typically 8 weeks to 8 years of age. Exact age limits may vary by insurer — confirm with Probitas at time of policy issuance (022 4302 0000).
The dog must be duly vaccinated — Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, and other core vaccines. Full vaccination records must be submitted at inception and kept current.
A Vet health certificate is mandatory at inception — certifying breed, age, health status, vaccination history, and current market value of the dog.
The dog must be identified by an ISO-standard microchip or tattoo ID at inception. The ID number is recorded in the policy schedule for claim verification.
Coverage is for pets kept for personal/domestic purposes only. Dogs used for security, guard duty, racing, or any commercial purpose are not eligible unless specifically endorsed.

Coverage Under Pet Insurance
The policy provides indemnity against death, permanent disability, and surgical expenses of the insured dog during the policy period.
How Claims Are Calculated
The Sum Insured equals the current market value of the dog as certified by a registered Veterinary Surgeon at policy inception. This is not a fixed amount — it reflects the dog's actual market value.
On confirmed death of the insured dog, the insurer pays 100% of the Sum Insured after deducting the standard deductible (typically ~5%).
For Permanent Total Disability due to accident, the insurer pays 75% of the Sum Insured after the standard deductible. Available under Death + PTD and Comprehensive plans.
If the dog is insured for less than its actual market value, the condition of average applies — your claim is reduced proportionally. Always insure at 100% of current market value.
| Parameter | Death Claim | PTD Claim |
|---|---|---|
| Dog Breed | Labrador Retriever | |
| Sum Insured (Vet-Certified Market Value) | ₹ 50,000 | |
| Type of Claim | Death due to Accident | Permanent Total Disability |
| Indemnity Rate | 100% of SI | 75% of SI |
| Gross Claimable Amount | ₹ 50,000 | ₹ 37,500 |
| Standard Deductible (~5%) | ₹ 2,500 | ₹ 2,500 |
| Claim Payable | ₹ 47,500 | ₹ 35,000 |
* Illustrative only. Actual deductible and claim settlement subject to insurer's assessment and policy schedule. Surgery/treatment claims settled at actuals up to applicable sub-limit.
Policy Conditions
The following 12 conditions are binding under the Pet Dog Insurance Policy. Non-compliance may result in claim rejection or policy voiding.
Dog must be identified by ISO-standard microchip or tattoo ID at inception — ID number recorded in the policy schedule.
Veterinary health certificate mandatory at inception — certifying breed, age, health status, and current market value.
Full vaccination record required at inception — must be kept current throughout the entire policy period.
Policy is non-transferable — cannot be transferred to a new owner if the dog is sold, gifted, or rehomed.
Any change of address or kennel location must be intimated to the insurer within 14 days of the change.
Insurer may appoint an independent Vet for inspection at claim stage or at any time during the policy period.

In case of surgery or hospitalisation, insurer / TPA must be notified before admission wherever possible.
All veterinary bills, prescriptions, and treatment records must be preserved and submitted with the claim.
Under-insurance: condition of average will apply — always insure at 100% of the dog's current market value.
Renewal is subject to re-valuation of the dog's market value by a registered vet at each annual renewal.
Policy lapses immediately on the death of the insured dog — a new policy must be taken for any replacement pet.
