Coverage Under Pet Insurance

What is Covered?

The policy provides indemnity against death, permanent disability, and surgical expenses of the insured dog during the policy period.

⚠️ Disclaimer: Coverage details above are for general informational purposes only. Refer to the policy wordings issued by Company Ltd. for complete terms and conditions. Probitas Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. (Lic. No. 528) is an IRDAI-licensed broker and does not underwrite insurance.

How Claims Are Calculated

Indemnity & Claim Calculation

💰 Sum Insured = Vet-Certified Market Value

The Sum Insured equals the current market value of the dog as certified by a registered Veterinary Surgeon at policy inception. This is not a fixed amount — it reflects the dog's actual market value.

🐕 Death Claim — 100% of SI

On confirmed death of the insured dog, the insurer pays 100% of the Sum Insured after deducting the standard deductible (typically ~5%).

♿ PTD Claim — 75% of SI

For Permanent Total Disability due to accident, the insurer pays 75% of the Sum Insured after the standard deductible. Available under Death + PTD and Comprehensive plans.

⚖️ Under-Insurance — Average Clause

If the dog is insured for less than its actual market value, the condition of average applies — your claim is reduced proportionally. Always insure at 100% of current market value.

Some Myths about Pet Insurance

Frequently Asked Questions

All recognised purebred and pedigree dogs are eligible. Common breeds include Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Dobermann, Rottweiler, Pomeranian, Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, Great Dane, Dalmatian, Boxer, Pug, Saint Bernard, and others. Contact Probitas on 022 4302 0000 to confirm eligibility for your specific breed.
Typically, dogs aged 8 weeks to 8 years are eligible. However, exact age limits can vary by insurer and breed — some policies may have different upper age limits for larger breeds. Confirm with Probitas at time of enquiry to get the exact age band for your pet.
Yes — under the Comprehensive cover plan only. Surgical expenses arising from accident or disease are covered up to the sub-limit specified in the policy schedule. The Death Only and Death + PTD plans do not include surgery / treatment cover. Emergency veterinary treatment is also covered under the Comprehensive plan up to applicable sub-limits.
The Sum Insured equals the current market value of the dog as certified by a registered Veterinary Surgeon at the time of policy inception. This value is recorded in the policy schedule and forms the basis of all claim calculations. At each annual renewal, the market value is re-assessed by a vet.
No. Pre-existing diseases or conditions known at the time of inception are excluded from coverage. Similarly, congenital or hereditary defects are not covered. This is why a Vet health certificate at inception is mandatory — to establish the dog's health baseline.
Notify Probitas and the insurer within 24 hours of the dog's death. A registered Veterinary Surgeon must conduct a post-mortem to certify the cause of death. Submit the Claim Form, post-mortem report, policy doc, microchip ID proof, and bank details. The insurer will settle 100% of the Sum Insured (after standard deductible) upon approval.
Yes — PTD due to accident is covered under the Death + PTD and Comprehensive plans. The indemnity for PTD is 75% of the Sum Insured after the standard deductible. PTD must be certified by a registered vet, and the insurer may appoint an independent vet for verification.
Typically, the Pet Dog Insurance policy under covers recognised purebred and pedigree dogs only. Mixed-breed / indie / non-pedigree dogs may not be eligible under standard policy terms. Please contact Probitas on 022 4302 0000 for current insurer guidelines on this.
Yes. The dog must be duly vaccinated — at minimum Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, and other core vaccines — before the policy can be issued. Full vaccination records must be submitted at inception and must be kept current throughout the policy period. Failure to maintain vaccinations may affect claim eligibility.
